When it comes to great play, Columbus this is a city that works from every angle, and for every angler—not to mention boaters, golfers, hunters, hikers, runners and outdoor lovers of all ages. There’s something for everyone in “The City that Has It All,” where outdoor adventure is always in season.

Spend the morning on land, or water

On Land
Spend the morning at the 190-acre Plymouth Bluff Environmental Center, where the history runs as deep as the bluff rises high. The 60-70 foot high bluff offers dramatic views of the old Tombigbee River Channel in a gorgeous setting. Four miles of nature trails wind through a variety of natural areas ranging from floodplain forest to upland mixed hardwoods, and are ideal for hiking or simply enjoying outdoors that are truly great.

On Water
At the nearly 9,000-acre Columbus Lake on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, the waters are stocked with plentiful bass that have drawn anglers from across America both for national tournaments and just-for-fun fishing days in the sun—of which there are a multitude here in the heart of the Deep South.

Lunch

Outdoor lovers are in for a real treat at Proffitt’s Porch, voted the best outdoor dining in the state by Mississippi Magazine. Grab a seat on the porch overlooking Officers Lake, and dig into one of their award-winning sandwiches, enjoy a cup of red beans and rice or seafood gumbo, and save room for one of their homemade desserts. This is a memory you’re sure to savor for years to come.

An afternoon on the green & dinner

An afternoon of splendor on the grass awaits at one of our pristine golf courses.

At Lion Hills and Elm Lake, the perfection of the links is matched by the pleasures of the clubs’ lunch and dinner menus. Savor your score with a great meal at one of these clubhouses, or at any of our other exceptional eateries and restaurants.

Rev things up or slow things down

Want to kick up the speed?
Spend the evening around the .3-mile oval red clay track at the Columbus Speedway or the .373-mile oval at Magnolia Motor Speedway for some fast-paced excitement.

Looking for a slower pace?
Before retiring for the evening, take in the natural beauty with a scenic sunset stroll along the Columbus Riverwalk. The picturesque walking and biking trail is highlighted by a stately bridge situated over the Tombigbee River, which offers unforgettable sunset views.
