Currently under restoration by expert Restorians\, it also boasts an underground level once used as servants’ quarters. Circa 1830 \n\n  \n\n \nWhite Arches\, 122 7th Ave S\nBuilt by Jeptha Vining Harris\, White Arches is a striking blend of Greek Revival\, Gothic Revival\, and Italianate styles\, known as “Columbus Eclectic;’ featuring delicate tracery and a three-story octagonal tower. Once home to the scholar and legislator\, it showcases walnut bookcases and sits amid beautiful landscaping. It is currently owned by Joanne & Dick Leike. Later\, the Wood family used it as a seminary for Cumberland Presbyterian preachers. The Aaron Lorenz family now resides in this historic home which will be 200 years old in 2026. Circa 1826 \n\n  \n\n \nBerry-Scott Home\, 2009 Bluecutt Rd\nThis Greek Revival cottage was once a country farm but now lies within the city limits\, and is home to the Clifton Scott family. It features a hipped roof\, widow’s walk\, and double-columned porch\, with a 1920s renovation connecting the original detached kitchen. Circa 1843 \n\nBuy Tickets \nINDIGO TOUR – April 3rd 9-12 | April 8th 9-12 | April 10th 9-12\n\n \nAldan Hall\, 901 7th Ave N\nBuilt by lawyer John Shelby Topp\, the house began as a Federal-style home with a central stair hall and removable transom and sidelights for summer ventilation. In 1854\, James Sykes bought and enlarged the house\, adding a Greek Revival portico. It was restored in the 1980s by Wayne and Betty Bryan and updated in 2020. Circa 1840 \n\n  \n\n \nWisteria Place\, 524 8th St N\nDating from 1854\, Wisteria Place is a Greek Revival gem with six columns\, Venetian glass accents\, and a cantilevered staircase. In 1883\, a newspaper declared visiting Columbus without seeing it akin to leaving Washington without visiting the Capitol. It is currently owned by John Carr & Billy Cox. Currently\, it is owned by Sid Caradine-a descendent of Amzi Love and his wife Brenda-founder of the Tennessee Williams Tribute. The home showcases original furnishings and artifacts. Circa 1848 \n\n  \n\n \nColonnade\, 620 2nd St S\nThis 1860s home was one of the last grand houses to be built in Columbus before the Civil War. It features a boxwood maze and an asymmetrical entrance. Its fruit-lined pathways and blooming flowers reflect the legacy of past gardeners. It is now owned by Michelle & Trae Vaughan. Circa 1860 \n\nBuy Tickets \nBLUE TOUR – April 4th 9-12 | April 12th 9-12\n\n \nTwelve Gables\, 220 3rd St S\nThis home is one of Columbus; earliest surviving examples of Greek Revival architecture\, known for its distinctive gabled roofline\, millwork\, and ashlar stone pattern on the facade fashioned after Mt. Vernon. In 1866\, it hosted the meeting that inspired Memorial Day\, blending architectural beauty with a complex history shaped by both compassion as a refuge for wounded Civil War soldiers and the painful legacy of slavery. It is currently owned by Jace Ferraez & Luke Hodges. Circa 1837 \n\n  \n\n \nCady House\, 518 College St\nBuilt by Colonel William M. Cady\, this home is one of the earliest brick homes of its period. Originally a small cottage built in the 1840s\, a mid-1850s expansion transformed the house into an Italianate-style house. It is now owned by the John Fields family. Restored in 1974 by Frank and Esther Troskey\, it now displays artifacts discovered during restoration. It is now owned by Veronica & Boyce Moody. Circa 1843 \n\n  \n\n \nWaverley\, 1852 Waverley Mansion Rd\, 39733\nStep into the allure of Waverley Mansion\, a National Landmark built in 1852 by Colonel George Hampton Young. This antebellum estate features an octagonal cupola\, self-supporting stairways\, and a gas-fired chandelier. It was recently restored by its current owner. Lee Home & Museum\, 316 7th St N\nArchitect James Lull created a classical design for Major Thomas Blewett. The home was inherited by Blewett’s granddaughter Regina Harrison Lee\, wife of Civil War General Stephen D. Lee. Restored in 1960 by the Lowndes County Historical Society\, the home showcases original furnishings\, an extensive Civil War collection\, and houses the Florence McLeod Hazard Local History Museum. Circa 1847 \n\n  \n\n \nRiverview\, 514 2nd St S\nBuilt by James Lull for Colonel Charles McLaran\, this Greek Revival showpiece features identical facades on 1st and 2nd Streets. A cupola displays stained glass windows symbolizing the four seasons\, and a counter-weighted wall can be raised to expand one of the the second-floor rooms. It is now owned by Jo Anne & Dick Leike. DESCRIPTION:Tales from the Crypt is a treat for the entire family. This graveyard tour promises to be a memorable experience for lovers of history and drama\, for it is a combination of both. Tales from the Crypt re-creates the lives of noted personalities interred at historic Friendship Cemetery\, the site of the Decoration Day that inspired the poem\, The Blue and the Gray. \nTales from the Crypt is an award-winning project of history students from the Columbus-based Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS). The project has won the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts and been named a national finalist by the History Channel for the Save Our History Classroom Award. The project has also been featured nationally by National Public Radio\, Turner Broadcasting\, The New York Times\, The Atlantic\, Garden & Gun\, and a host of other regional publications. MSMS students research and develop characters with assistance from the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library archives staff. \nPlease arrive no later than 9 p.m. Tickets $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets sold only at Friendship Cemetery. \n
