DESCRIPTION:Mississippi University for Women presents “The Soul of All America\,” the fifth episode from the new Ken Burns documentary\, The American Revolution\, but this time\, we’re dressing up for Halloween! Come in your most authentic Revolutionary garb; the best-dressed patriot will win a prize! \nThe fifth episode covers the period from December 1777 through May 1780. George Washington and the Continental Army spend the winter at Valley Forge\, Pennsylvania. Conditions are horrible. Many soldiers are sick\, clothing is scarce\, and men go for days with barely any food. People die\, and as morale plummets\, other men simply go home. There is talk of mutiny. Slowly\, Washington turns things around\, but the French-American alliance changes the war and moves it to other theaters:  the sea\, in Indian Country\, and in the South. Navies battle off England and in the Caribbean\, while armies advance in Indian Country and the South; the British take Charleston. Learn more about the episode\, the key players\, and critical documents at PBS. \n​The entire documentary is 6 episodes total with each episode running approximately 2 hours in length. Sample savory Mississippi farm-raised catfish\, as well as other Southern fare\, while enjoying the soulful sounds of blues music. This annual event features concerts\, artisans\, food vendors and fun for the whole family. Held each spring in Columbus\, Catfish in the Alley is a tribute to the African American citizens of Columbus who contributed to the town’s rich political\, historical\, cultural and musical heritage. But don’t take our word for it – come see for yourself! \nFriday\, April 9 | Blues with a Side of Soul\nJoin us for “Blues with a Side of Soul” on Friday\, April 9 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Soul food plate lunches available for purchase. \nSaturday\, April 10 | Catfish in the Alley and Artisans Alley\nVisit the world-famous “Catfish Alley\,” where legendary bluesmen\, such as Howlin’ Wolf\, Bukka White and Big Joe Williams\, got their start. Here nationally recognized artists\, such as B.B. King\, Duke Ellington\, Little Richard\, Louis Armstrong and James Brown\, performed alongside Mississippi’s blues guitarists. Catfish in the Alley event headliners will wow the crowds with their original songs and reimagined takes on blues classics\, so come early and leave late. Food vendors and artisans will also be onsite.
